Beach Bum, Seaside, Oregon

At the last minute, I headed to the Oregon coast in an attempt to see the Perseid meteor shower. To lay on the beach and watch magic sparkle across the night sky. But as the sun dipped below the horizon, the clouds rolled in, covering the stars. I fell asleep to the soothing rhythm of the ocean waves, only to be woken by a passing rainstorm.

I missed the meteor shower, was drenched from the rain, and had beach sand creeping into places I’d rather it didn’t… except none of that seemed to matter.

I felt content to merely exist.

With more rain on the way, the sunny beach days I’d imagined were no longer a possibility, and yet, I found peace in the drizzle, as it washed away my expectations.

Instead of a tan, I got quesabirria tacos in Seaside and hiked out to the cabins on top of Tillamook Head. Hoping for shelter from the storm, where it would only be me and the mice, sitting alone in the dark.

Wondering if acceptance is my curse…
