Camping at Rockaway Beach

For no reason at all he headed north. Two short but easy rides up 101, then he hiked along the abandoned rail line that traced the rugged coast, eventually arriving in Rockaway Beach. The journey had been long, and he was weary of lugging around milk and cookies that had no business being on the road with him.

Time to sit down and eat.

As the night draped the beach, the full moon and cloudless sky created an ethereal ambiance that was broken only by the dazzling fireworks display launched from a group of people not too far away, and unaware of his presence.

Life at the beach was too easy.

How much longer was summer going to last?
