Hello from the trail that isn’t a trail, more of a suggested direction of travel, the Continental Divide Trail. Made the mistake of leaving town during the hottest part of the day, had to take refuge under a road as tumbleweeds blew past on strong winds. #CDT #nobo

AZT to CDT via Tombstone, AZ
Hiked into Tombstone to see the OK Coral and Boot Hill Cemetery. Didn’t take enough pictures. Realized that I was going to miss my ride to New Mexico unless I hustled… so I hitchhiked rather than walk the last 30 miles to the train station. #greatday
AZT Southern Terminus
Finished the Arizona Trail for now by making it to the southern terminus, got a haircut, which means I’m back to carrying hair clippers again, got new shoes, and ran back out into the desert. (Pack weight has been consistently 25 – 30 pounds) #wandering
New Shoes in Sierra Vista, AZ
Hiked holes in my shoes, got a hotel room in Sierra Vista to pickup the new shoes being delivered to an Amazon locker… Waited all day because Amazon said that the shoes were out for delivery. Then at 8pm they decided that the shoes couldn’t be delivered for several more days. There’s a running shoe […]
Sobo Out of Patagonia, AZ
Water, you know it’s good when it’s growing green, horses, desert, a much needed foot soak, and no rain fly on the tent, because I fell asleep before I could put it on #AZT #sobo
Phone Battery Dead, No Food, Holes in My Shoes
Not enough cell phone battery to make it to Patagonia, backup battery is only giving one charge and it’s dead, time for the solar panel. Fingers crossed Shoes are breaking down too, inserts worn through and soles as thin as paper. Out of food because I have no portion control and ate everything the first […]
Tucson to Colossal Cave Mountain Park
It took a lot longer to walk out of Tucson than I thought, but I had some encouragement along the way. Only about 100 miles left, the next three or four days will be spent crossing the desert to Patagonia, my last town stop before the border. I think. I haven’t really looked at the […]
Into Tucson on the AZT
Behind the Tent Door, sounds like a movie title #AZT #sobo
Mt. Lemmon Cookie Cabin, AZT
What a cold and treacherous trail today. Felt like my feet were in snow for most of it. I’m not sure if the giant white chocolate macadamia nut cookie with four scoops of vanilla ice cream and smothered in whip cream helped, or if it slowed me down. #fatty #hiking #AZT
Casa Rivera, Oracle, AZ
When you remember to pack out a burrito for the 20 mile, 4,000 feet climb… #sogood #AZT #sobo
