Back on trail, devouring homemade mac ‘n’ cheese, and burning through socks.
From Elk Lake to Obsidian Falls on the PCT.
Meadows covered in smoke, my home for the night.
Drinking from the headwaters of Glacier Creek after a night spent somewhere on the side of North Sister, one of the volcanic peaks making up the Three Sisters.
The smoke clears, revealing a night sky filled with stars.
I hesitate to leave. With only a couple of hundred miles to the Columbia River, I have plenty of time.
The trail north is blocked by butterflies, warning me about the Belknap lava field yet to come. The dark rock absorbs and radiates heat under a relentless sun. Tired and dehydrated, I sleep in black sand, made from pulverized rock.
