Reflections

I got lost on the Florida Trail, and a month and a half later, found myself in Flagstaff, Arizona.

I’d gotten used to being off social media, and coming back was a harder decision than it should have been.

I’d had such a great time with so many incredible people that it felt disrespectful for not posting a single picture during the month and a half between trails.

From the last days on the Florida Trail, to unforgettable moments with beautiful friends in Las Vegas, and then family time on the old homestead. It was a month and a half to rival any other in my life.

From the culmination of everyone’s Florida Trail thru hike, to cupcake in my mouth at the top of the Venetian, to stealth camping on Frenchman Mountain, watching Las Vegas light up with the sunset, to muddy roads on the high desert plains of Arizona’s Painted Desert that left us stranded for three days, and a new solar panel installation to run a 12 volt refrigerator… All of it was more than I could have asked for.

As I was about to step on the Arizona Trail, I realized that despite the beauty of the outdoors, my time hiking alone will never compare to the quality of life spent in the company of friends and family.

In that moment of clarity, I grasped the purpose behind sharing my journey on social media. It is during solitary moments that I feel compelled to reach out and share the beauty of the world with those who aren’t physically by my side…
