Rodman Dam, Palatka, Florida

My plan had been to go into the town of Palatka to resupply, but everyone else had a mail drop at Rodman Dam, and they had more than they could eat. I ended up with some hand me down peanut butter and Pop Tarts, more than enough to make it two days to the next resupply in Keystone Heights. Besides, I still had food of my own I hadn’t been eating. Weight I’d been carrying for no reason because I’d been spoiled by trail magic for the last hundred miles.

Once everyone had their food, the desire to hike on had left. Rodman Campground was shut down, but they let us camp on the grass by the lake. They had laundry, hot showers, and electric outlets. Fifteen miles was all we’d do for the day. It was a beautiful sunset, with friends around a fire, and it felt like the perfect setting for a small handful of mushrooms.

It was a beautiful night.
