Alice Wallet: Stellar Testnet Tutorial

Welcome to Alice

Alice, or AIus, is an experimental DeFi token built on the Stellar network that leverages the network’s functionality in the hope of providing consistent returns to those who trust her with their assets. Alice has her own Stellar wallet that provides this functionality to help you reach your financial goals.

Since many people are new to cryptocurrency and the concept of being your own bank, this walkthrough will guide you in understanding the functions of a non-custodial wallet in the safe environment of the Stellar test network. Here, you can make all the transactions you want without any fear of losing money. All tokens will be provided free of charge, as they hold no real-world value. Once you are familiar with the functions of your Alice wallet and the responsibilities of being your own bank, you can move on to using Alice with actual currency.

What is a Non-Custodial Wallet?

A non-custodial wallet gives users complete control and responsibility over their assets. This means:

  • You control your private/secret keys that allow access to your funds on the network
  • Your secret key is proof that you own the digital assets on the blockchain
  • You are fully responsible for the security of your keys and funds
  • If you lose your keys, there is no way to recover your funds

The Alice wallet connects you to the Stellar network and handles your keys for signing transactions. She provides a simple interface that manages all the complex technical details behind the scenes.

Remember the important principle: Not Your Keys, Not Your Coins. When you use custodial services like many crypto exchanges, you’re giving up control of your secret keys to someone else. With Alice wallet, you maintain full control.

Getting Started with Alice Wallet on Testnet

Step 1: Create Your Wallet

  1. Open the Alice testnet wallet in another browser tab: https://cleanshave.org/TestnetWallet/
  2. Click the Create New Wallet button
  3. You’ll then see two important pieces of information:
    • Public Key: This is your wallet address that you can share with others to receive assets
    • Secret Key: This is the private key that gives access to your funds (never share this with anyone)

Step 2: Secure Your Keys

  1. Copy and save your Public Key displayed at the top of the page
    • Your public key works like a bank account number – you can share it with others so they can send you assets
    • It starts with “G” and contains a series of letters and numbers
  2. Copy and save your Secret Key by clicking the “Show Secret Key” button at the bottom of the page
    • Your secret key is like the password to your bank account combined with your ID
    • If someone gets your secret key, they can take all your funds
    • If you lose your secret key, you lose access to your funds forever
    • Store it securely, preferably offline and in multiple secure locations

Step 3: Fund Your Wallet with XLM

  1. Fund your wallet with XLM (the native Stellar token) by visiting the Stellar Laboratory Friendbot
  2. Paste your public key in the provided field and click “Get Test Lumens”
  3. The Friendbot will send you 10,000 test XLM

About XLM (Lumens):

  • XLM is the native token of the Stellar network
  • It’s needed to pay transaction fees (which are very minimal)
  • It’s also required as a reserve for each asset you want to hold (0.5 XLM per asset)
  • In the testnet, XLM has no real value – it’s just for learning purposes

Step 4: Add Trustlines for AIus and USDC

Once you have XLM in your wallet, you’ll see the Curated Assets list with AIus and USDC.

  1. Click on “Add” for both AIus and USDC to establish trustlines

What are Trustlines?

  • Trustlines are a Stellar network requirement to hold assets other than XLM
  • They’re like explicit permission slips saying “I agree to accept this asset”
  • Each trustline requires a reserve of 0.5 XLM
  • Trustlines protect users from unknown or spam assets

Step 5: Get USDC

  1. After adding the USDC trustline, visit the USDC Faucet to get test tokens: https://cleanshave.org/TestnetWallet/Funding/
  2. Enter your public key in the faucet and submit
  3. You’ll receive 25,000 USDC tokens (remember, these are test tokens with no real value)

Using Core Wallet Features

The Trust Alice Feature

Now that you have USDC, you can use the “Trust Alice” feature:

  1. Navigate to the “Trust Alice” section in the menu
  2. The demo version of this feature will automatically calculate 1% of your USDC balance
  3. Click the “Trust Alice” button to swap this amount of USDC for AIus tokens
  4. The system will then automatically place a sell order for the AIus tokens at a 10% premium

What’s happening behind the scenes:

  • You’re swapping USDC for AIus tokens
  • Alice automatically creates a sell order for these AIus tokens at a price 10% higher than what you paid
  • This exemplifies Alice’s core value proposition: earning returns through automated trading

This is the core value feature of the Alice wallet. While the demo version uses slightly different variables than the Alice wallet on the Stellar public network, this feature should make it easy for users to cost average into and out of AIus with the touch of a button.

Exploring Transactions

After using the Trust Alice feature, navigate to the Transactions section:

  1. You should see several transactions listed:
    • ACCOUNT CREATION: When your account was created with the initial XLM
    • PAYMENT-RECEIVED: From the USDC faucet
    • SWAP: When you used the Trust Alice feature

Each transaction type has a different color:

  • Red (outgoing): Payments leaving your wallet
  • Green (incoming): Assets coming to your wallet
  • Blue (swaps): Conversions between assets within your wallet

Sending Payments

Let’s try sending a payment:

  1. Go to the “Payments” section in the menu
  2. Choose which asset you want to send (XLM, USDC, or AIus)
  3. Enter the recipient’s public key
    • If you don’t have another wallet address, you can send a small amount to: GDTNOG64SNIO4DZGUHJNI2UDC7IJVLB7Z2RC4UM2W3S4RR724CLJPCVF (Alice’s testnet liquidity management wallet)
  4. Enter the amount you want to send
  5. Add a memo (up to 28 bytes) – this is like a reference note, and while it isn’t required, adding a brief message will show you how memo’s are displayed
  6. Click “Send Payment”
  7. Check the Transactions page to see your payment (marked in red) and the memo you attached

Managing Trustlines

You can add more trustlines for other assets:

  1. Go to the “Trustlines” section in the menu
  2. In the “Add Trustlines” section, enter:
    • Asset Code: The ticker symbol of the asset
    • Issuer Public Key: The account that issued the asset
  3. Click “Add Trustline”

Remember, each trustline requires a 0.5 XLM reserve.

Here are a few Testnet Assets you can try:

  • PEPE – GCZF7BLPAU5FI3D65YFTWULXWU6CTLM75IFXXCDFRPAZGS2R5O3GT2AT
  • MEMEUS – GBEJKQEV5LFDCSXZCYMDDTHHFYXQPVT6AGH7JUEHXJD3B6ATB4MYS64Y
  • SSLX – GBKHHKTUDNF56UHDNRHWOCKROYAK4B64CGDVGF43J4NENE6CO6JLICW7
  • CAT – GA6T7WH3575FNHP7DJ46CPDTCWWBAJ2MKD5YDCS43JR2ZZENJFJCLSC6
  • Courage – GDOQYCWEX7X4UKY44G6WWNCPMVBD2ZCJG477C4ZMXMVDWTEQ7MDHJECN
  • poolTOKEN – GDSP5A4MRBLX5CTI7TYKOKRK5PDDJCJQ2DLTJSZM6NHM6OYDEBRQ7ZR7
  • HONEY – GCBTIN5JRPVKVPJ2D6DSBERWFK4GC46KFKS73A4PQTZUYQJGU256LW26

Swapping Assets

Now that you have the trustline for a new asset, let’s get some tokens.

To exchange one asset for another:

  1. Go to the “Swap Assets” section in the menu
  2. Select the asset you want to sell
  3. Enter the amount you want to swap
  4. Select the asset you want to buy
  5. Click “Swap Assets”
  6. The transaction will appear in your history as a blue swap transaction

Moving to the Public Network

Once you’re comfortable with the testnet wallet, you may want to try the real Alice wallet on the public Stellar network. Remember that on the public network:

  1. You’ll need to buy real XLM
  2. All actions will involve real money
  3. There are no free faucets
  4. Your security practices become critically important

Best Practices for Wallet Security

  1. Never share your secret key with anyone, under any circumstances
  2. Back up your secret key in multiple secure locations
  3. Be careful when copying and pasting wallet addresses to avoid errors and to prevent your secret key from being exposed
  4. Start with small amounts when learning
  5. Double-check all transaction details before confirming
  6. Remember that testnet assets have no value – they’re just for learning

Hopefully, this tutorial has guided you through the main features of the Alice wallet on the Stellar testnet. You’ve learned about creating a wallet, managing assets, using the Trust Alice feature, sending payments, and more. These skills provide a foundation for using cryptocurrency wallets and participating in the broader Stellar ecosystem.
