In & Out Yo-Yo

I said goodbye to family and the homestead, catching the Greyhound west for In-N-Out and a little trail therapy.

A burger and a run through the mountains was exactly what I needed. From In-N-Out in Flagstaff to In-N-Out in Oro Valley, 400 miles one way on the Arizona Trail, then yo-yo back. An In-N-Out Yo-Yo.

At least that’s the rough plan. I’m out of shape and carrying too much weight, but every step out of town makes me feel lighter.

I take the pedestrian footpath almost directly to Sinclair Wash, under I-40, and turn right on the AZT Flagstaff Urban Route to head south. Life feels easy again. No plan for the night, or the week. Only the promise of a double-double almost a month from now, with plenty of open acceptance for whatever comes next, whatever falls in between.

I surrender myself to the trail. Letting the sounds of traffic and society fade. Memory has a tendency to get in the way of living.
